Zodiac - by August 5th.
Zodiac comes out on DVD tomorrow which means that it is easily available to anyone who wants to see it. Even dreadful places like Blockbuster and Hollywood will have it.  I'll be screening it at my place, since I watched it without Monty and also because I kind of want to see it again anyway.

All The President's Men Discussion Thread
I liked this movie more than I expected to. In fact, when the DVD froze up I was kind of grumpy about it.

I still don't really understand what happened in Watergate, mostly because it happened when I was very young. To me, G. Gordon Liddy is just a crazy guy who hosts a right-wing talk show.  Despite my lack of historical knowlege, I liked the movie.
I think I liked it because because of the way that the reporters did their jobs. Those guys did real legwork - they didn't just sit down at a computer and google some guy. They had to do hundreds of interviews - they had to dig through stacks of paper - they had to sneak around and talk to a mysterious smoking dude!

I can't really say that I have a better understanding of the Watergate scandal, but I do feel like I understand what investigative reporters are supposed to do. Sadly it seems as though most investigators today are just happy to look something up on Wikipedia and let it go at that.

Vexing News!
I cannot get a copy of All The Presidents Men by Sunday. I believe it has been assigned to a college class or something because it seems to be in high demand. As soon as I find out what my work schedule is, I will post a revised schedule and plan a movie night here.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

All The President's Men 7/9/07
Although All The President's Men  is exactly the sort of movie that bores the pants off of me, I've selected it for a few reasons.
  • Firstly because it is one of the movies recently added to the AFI's top 100 movies list and I'm trying to catch up.
  • Secondly because both Jana and Monty suggested it.
  • Thirdly: Because most of my friends have not seen it, and it will be interesting to see it for the first time together.

Plot Synopsis: (Courtesy of the IMDB)

In the run-up to the 1972 elections, Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward covers what seems to be a minor break-in at the Democratic Party National headquarters. He is surprised to find top lawyers already on the defence case, and the discovery of names and addresses of Republican fund organisers on the accused further arouses his suspicions. The editor of the Post is prepared to run with the story and assigns Woodward and Carl Bernstein to it. They find the trail leading higher and higher in the Republican Party, and eventually into the White House itself.

How this works
  • I will post a movie title, and a date.
  • We will all try and watch the movie before the posted date.
  • Once the date has passed, it is OK to post spoilers - if you watch the movie earlier, please keep your posts spoiler-free.
  • Movies will be from all genres, this isn't just about cult films, horror movies, or romantic comedies - please keep an open mind.
  • Suggestions for future movies to watch are always welcomed
  • Remember this is an unmoderated forum and you are expected to be polite. Opinions vary, and one of the reasons I'm starting this group is because I'm interested in viewpoints different from my own.
